"Sedona Burbs"
"One of my new favorite venues for creating dramatic
western landscapes is in (not surprisingly) Arizona–around
Sedona to be more precise. My wife Jean and I were traveling
north to Sedona, one October morning on a pre-painting photo
expedition. We had never been to Sedona but had heard lots
of enthusiastic talk from those who had. We were excited to
finally be on our way there. We were not disappointed. We
rounded a bend and zowie what a scene! The sky and the
towering red rock were dramatic and everywhere we looked was
breathtaking. I got out my camera gear and started shooting
and shooting. Then I’d drive up the road a few miles and get
out my camera gear and start shooting and shooting some
more. More miles, more stops and more shooting! I had so
many cool scenes that I decided to make a series of 3
paintings. “Road to Sedona”
being the first, "Sedona Burbs" and finally
"Sedona Morning". Each
landscape is a miniature- a small panoramic oil painting on
a gessoed panel."
